N. Kingston St. Reconstruction Project Update (July 24, 2018)

Here is a brief update on the status of the N. Kingston St. Reconstruction Project and what to expect in the next week:

Current Status

  • The grading crew that was supposed to start grading the first three blocks of N. Kingston Street yesterday was delayed and will be starting tomorrow (i.e., Wednesday, July 25, 2018). As a reminder, during this process, the contractor will excavate the top ~28″ of soil in order to place the select granular and aggregate bases. After the soil is excavated, the contractor will perform a roll test, which involves driving a dump truck on the soil to show if the soil has proper density to withstand the traffic once the road is finished. If the roll test shows that there are not any problems, the contractor will place the select granular and aggregate base on the road. If the roll test shows soft spots in the soil, the contractor will have to open cut it to create a drying effect (which may last 1-3 days, and then put back in place) or excavate the poor soil and replace it with new, dry material. It is expected that this grading process will be done one block at a time.
  • There will be additional street grading when the curb and gutter are installed, which is expected to happen towards the end of the project.
  • Temporary water has been set up for properties on the two blocks of N. Kingston St. between Caledonia St. and McKinley St.

Upcoming Work

  • This week the pipe crew will be working on installing sanitary sewer main and water main pipe from Caledonia St. to McKinley St. It is expected that late next week the pipe crew will start installing sewer and water services from Caledonia St. to McKinley St. Once the sewer and water services have been installed, residents will be converted from temporary service back to regular service.
